Job Overview

This position entails a wide range of professional accounting and financial reporting tasks within the Accounting Division. You will be responsible for overseeing city-wide accounting policies, audits, and financial reporting.


Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare the City's Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, including financial statement schedules and notes.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to various departments on accounting issues, including grants and the use of the City's financial systems.
  • Review City revenues and expenditures to ensure compliance with policies, legal standards, and accounting practices.
  • Maintain fiscal records for grant-funded projects to meet auditing standards.
  • Ensure compliance with established financial policies and procedures across the City.

Essential Duties
  • Compile the City's Comprehensive Annual Financial Report in accordance with governmental GAAP and relevant laws.
  • Examine revenues and expenditures for adherence to City policies and appropriate documentation.
  • Make recommendations for corrections as necessary.
  • Oversee compliance with the City Grant Policy and Procedures.
  • Maintain an asset tracking system and prepare annual asset reports.
  • Assist in the management of the general ledger and chart of accounts.
  • Conduct detailed budget reconciliations and prepare status reports for various funds.
  • Research and implement new regulations affecting accounting policies.
  • Perform various accounting tasks, including journal entries and internal audits.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Prepare financial reports and presentations for management.
  • Assist in the creation of financial documents and visual aids for presentations.
  • Represent the department on various committees addressing internal matters.
  • Prepare annual budgets for assigned funds.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field is required, along with two years of professional accounting experience with an automated financial management system. Experience in public sector fund accounting is preferred.


Work Environment

This role is primarily office-based, requiring extended periods of sitting and computer use. Regular tasks include typing and handling documents.
