Job Summary

This Clinical Supervisor - Mental Health Specialist position is responsible for providing leadership and supervision to nursing staff in the mental health specialty practice. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in psychiatric nursing and experience in a supervisory role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical supervision to nursing staff, including coaching and performance management.
  • Collaborate with nurse managers to ensure education, competencies, and orientation of clinical staff are completed in accordance with company policy and regulatory guidelines.
  • Ensure adequate staffing, scheduling, and supervisory oversight based on clinical patient volumes and acuity.
  • Oversee on-site laboratory testing in conjunction with the lab.
  • Execute three stages of supervision: communication, oversight, and outcomes evaluation.
  • Provide leadership in the mental health specialty practice, including crisis prevention and milieu management.
  • Review nursing documentation and maintain standards regarding hospital policy on documentation.

Requirements

  • Current Virginia state license as a Registered Nurse or Registered Nurse holding a valid Compact State license.
  • Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice at a level normally acquired through the completion of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Technical and professional knowledge and skills unique to acute care psychiatric nursing acquired through 5 years' of active inpatient and acute psychiatric nursing, Clinical/Supervisory experience preferred.
  • CPR certification required and/or must be obtained within 45 days of hire.
  • Crisis Prevention Training must be completed within 30 days from hire.

Working Conditions

This position is active in the inpatient milieus with patients, staff, and families. The environment may include physical, mechanical restraints, as well as seclusion. Patients that are dysregulated with high acuity and potential for risk to self and others. Exposure to communicable diseases and moderately adverse working conditions due to the need to perform certain patient care activities can be expected.
