Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Career Resource Specialist to join our team at Benicia Fire Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing career guidance and development support to students, as well as operating a high school Career Center.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and implement career events and publicity to promote career awareness and exploration among students.
  • Assist and supervise students using the Career Center, providing guidance on higher education program planning and post-high school career planning.
  • Provide information to students on career resources, including occupational classification systems and career/life planning trends.
  • Develop and maintain files and materials related to careers, technical schools, colleges, and other private and public programs.
  • Administer and interpret vocational, interest, and aptitude tests and inventories, and assist students in designing a career plan.
  • Prepare and compile information and materials to conduct classroom units on job search skills, including application completion, telephone techniques, labor market information, interview techniques, and resume writing.
  • Plan, coordinate, and schedule career speakers and presenters from colleges, the armed services, and community employers.
  • Assist counselors as needed, and serve on assigned committees and teams.
Requirements
  • Any combination of training, education, and experience that demonstrates possession of the knowledge and abilities stated above, and the ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Typical qualifying entrance background includes completion of formal or informal training in career education, counseling, or a closely related field, or one year of responsible experience performing student educational program guidance or other career-related work.
  • Graduation from college is desirable.
Working Conditions

The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions, and will be expected to work independently with minimal supervision. The position requires the ability to communicate effectively in English with students, faculty, staff, and the community, both orally and in writing.
