Position Overview:

The Senior Vice President of Business Affairs will play a pivotal role in overseeing development and series-related agreements for scripted television programming. This includes, but is not limited to, negotiating deals with writers, directors, producers, and actors for Universal International Studio, which supports Working Title Television, Carnival Films, and various internal productions.

This position will also provide support to the broader Universal Studio Group portfolio as necessary and will report to the Senior Vice President of Business Affairs in the US, with a dotted line to the Senior Vice President of Business Affairs in the UK.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Negotiate all facets of scripted programming agreements with talent representatives and legal counsel, covering profit participation, rights agreements, and overall/first look deals, in direct collaboration with relevant studio stakeholders.

2. Engage daily with various departments, including Creative, Casting, Production, Labor, Legal, Publicity, Finance, Ad Sales, Music, Syndication, Marketing, and Business Affairs Administration.

3. Review budgets and financial data related to the development and production of the aforementioned programming.

4. Draft concise deal memos and test option agreements, as well as ensure the accuracy of terms in long-form agreements and coordinate payment authorizations.


Qualifications:

Basic Requirements:
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in television business affairs.

Business Affairs Flexibility:
- This role requires extensive collaboration with stakeholders in the UK and Australia.

- The ideal candidate should be prepared to start their workday no later than 8 AM LA time to accommodate UK working hours.

Desired Characteristics:
- Strong negotiation and drafting skills.

- Bar admission is preferred.

- Previous experience negotiating development and series-related agreements for broadcast and/or cable scripted programming is advantageous, with studio/network experience preferred.

- Demonstrated understanding of international business affairs, particularly in the UK market.

- Proven ability to work effectively as a team player.

- Familiarity with SAG, WGA, and DGA basic agreements and the AFTRA Code.

- Excellent oral and written communication skills, along with strong interpersonal abilities.

- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced in-house environment.

- Superior organizational skills, with the capacity to multitask and prioritize effectively.

- Demonstrated initiative, self-starter mentality, and accountability.


Additional Information:

- Candidates must be willing to work in a hybrid capacity, contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.

Salary Range:
$200K-$270K (bonus and long-term incentive eligible)
