Role Summary:

  • This position encompasses responsibilities as both a Unit Secretary and a Nursing Assistant. The Unit Secretary manages office tasks, clerical duties, and reception responsibilities within the nursing unit, facilitating order entry and coordinating administrative support. The Nursing Assistant provides essential patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, ensuring adherence to nursing policies and organizational objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Communication and Customer Service:
  • Greet and assist patients and visitors, ensuring a welcoming environment.
  • Exhibit professional communication skills when interacting with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Manage phone calls with proper etiquette, directing inquiries to the appropriate personnel.
  • Support patient transport and manage personal belongings during admissions and discharges.
  • Utilize communication systems effectively, including intercoms and pagers.
  • Conduct follow-up calls and patient surveys as directed by nursing leadership.
  • Order Management:
  • Assist healthcare professionals with accurate order entry and processing.
  • Monitor electronic work lists for new orders and alerts, ensuring timely communication with nursing staff.
  • Facilitate patient scheduling and coordinate multiple tests efficiently.
  • Chart Management:
  • Ensure all patient charts are accurately labeled and organized.
  • Prepare charts for admissions, transfers, and discharges, maintaining compliance with policies.
  • Patient Care Responsibilities:
  • Deliver age-appropriate care, considering the developmental needs of patients.
  • Assist with personal hygiene, nutrition, and mobility, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
  • Monitor vital signs and document patient information accurately.
  • Documentation and Communication:
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care in accordance with established protocols.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to communicate patient needs and updates effectively.

Qualifications:

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support certification (required).
  • Certified Nurse Aide or Certified Nursing Assistant preferred.
  • High School Diploma or GED (required).
  • 0-1 years of experience in an acute care setting or relevant clinical experience preferred.
