POSITION SUMMARY:

The Quality Assurance Inspector plays a crucial role in ensuring that all incoming, in-process, and outgoing materials adhere to the quality standards set by BS&B Safety Systems, LLC, and/or the client. This is a hands-on role that is essential to the manufacturing and quality control processes. Candidates must be adept at utilizing a diverse range of inspection and testing equipment and instruments. Proficiency in reading and interpreting detailed engineering drawings and instructions is required. Additionally, candidates should have experience in calibrating measuring instruments according to internal protocols and may be involved in conducting internal and external quality system audits.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct inspections of incoming components from both the internal machine shop and external machining vendors, ensuring compliance with drawings and customer specifications.
  • Examine certifications and test reports to confirm that customer requirements are satisfied. Recording receipt data, including quantities of parts received and accepted/rejected, may be necessary.
  • Generate Nonconformance Reports for any parts that do not meet the required specifications and submit them to the QA Supervisor for further action.
  • Assist shop supervisors with issues related to non-conformances, manufacturing, or documentation as needed.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to address manufacturing capabilities, special instructions, or testing requirements.
  • Calibrate gauges and QA instruments, maintaining accurate records of these activities.
  • Verify the integrity of manufactured components by inspecting them in accordance with current specifications and utilizing the necessary QA instruments.
  • Maintain precise documentation for all materials.
  • Coordinate inspection activities with outsourced inspectors in manufacturing areas to ensure compliance with customer specifications.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

  • Perform other assigned tasks as necessary.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to become proficient with new equipment and methodologies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Minimum requirement is a Diploma or GED. A 2-year technical college degree or 4 years of inspection/test experience is preferred. Current certification from the American Society for Quality may substitute for formal education.

Experience: At least 3 years of experience in areas such as checking high-precision machined parts using Micrometers, Calipers, Height Gauges, Thread Gages, and Optical Comparators. Experience with dimensional checking of threads and calibrating hand gauges against known standards is essential. Familiarity with metal fabricated parts and ASME standards is desired. Experience in Aerospace or Nuclear parts is advantageous. A background in a manufacturing environment is mandatory.

Knowledge: Candidates must possess the ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical drawings, documents, and engineering instructions. The ability to determine the most effective measuring method for inspecting machined parts is crucial. Quick and accurate review of certifications and declarations of conformity from external vendors is required. Basic math skills are necessary, along with logical thinking to solve practical problems. Understanding of Basic Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing concepts is important. Candidates should be able to reference material within ASTM, ASME, and ANSI standards and make informed decisions based on that information. Proficiency in computer skills is required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The role is situated in a machine shop environment, which may involve exposure to variable noise levels. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required in certain areas. The QA office is contained within the machine shop, where conditions are quieter.
