Position Overview

The Quality Assurance Inspector I is responsible for conducting comprehensive inspections across various stages of production to ensure adherence to quality standards. This role involves evaluating raw materials, in-process components, and finished products to confirm they meet the established specifications and customer expectations. The inspector will utilize precision measuring tools and follow defined inspection protocols to certify quality across all manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Conduct a range of mechanical inspections, including assessments of incoming materials, parts, and subassemblies from external suppliers, as well as first-run, random, and final inspections adhering to specified tolerances.
  2. Perform visual and dimensional evaluations of raw materials, forgings, machined components, coatings, heat-treated items, final assemblies, and returned products to ensure quality compliance.
  3. Authorize acceptance of items for production and provide feedback on rejected items, collaborating with the QA Manager or Supervisors to determine necessary rework or corrective actions.
  4. Utilize precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, scales, calipers, and other relevant gauges to carry out inspections.
  5. Generate detailed inspection reports and maintain accurate inspection records as per company requirements.
  6. Execute magnetic particle inspections on castings, forgings, and weldments during receiving inspections and ongoing production.
  7. Carry out dye penetrant inspections on machined parts and forgings to identify surface defects.
  8. Perform visual and dimensional inspections of inventory at the receiving dock.
  9. Conduct in-process inspections on the paint line and within the galvanizing department.
  10. Implement ultrasonic inspection techniques as part of the quality assurance process.
  11. Engage in machine shop inspections to ensure compliance with quality standards.
  12. Undertake additional related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
  • 2-5 years of experience in magnetic particle and ultrasonic inspection within a machine shop environment.
  • Proficient in operating Jib cranes for the safe handling of large components.
  • Certification in magnetic particle inspection at Level II.
  • Certification in ultrasonic inspection at Level II.
  • Ability to operate magnetic and ultrasonic testing equipment, as well as overhead hoists.
Education Requirements

A High School Diploma or equivalent is required, with vocational training preferred.

Work Environment

This position involves daily exposure to shop conditions that may vary based on assigned tasks, typically characterized by a dirty environment. The role requires the ability to withstand shop noise and involves significant standing and walking. Employees may encounter drying and irritating fumes, vapors, and solutions, all managed in accordance with OSHA standards. Work may be conducted both indoors and outdoors, sometimes in dusty or confined spaces.
