Position Summary:
The Quality Assurance Inspector plays a crucial role in ensuring that all incoming, in-process, and outgoing materials adhere to the quality standards set by BS&B Safety Systems, LLC, and our clients. This is a hands-on role that is essential to the manufacturing and quality control processes. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with various inspection and testing equipment and will be proficient in interpreting detailed engineering drawings and specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct inspections of incoming components from both internal and external machining vendors, ensuring compliance with specified drawings and customer requirements.
- Evaluate certifications and test reports to confirm that customer specifications are met, and document receipt data, including quantities received and accepted/rejected parts.
- Generate Nonconformance Reports for any parts that do not meet the required specifications and escalate these to the QA Supervisor for necessary actions.
- Assist the shop supervisor with issues related to non-conformances, manufacturing, or documentation as needed.
- Collaborate with engineering teams regarding manufacturing capabilities, special instructions, or testing requirements.
- Calibrate measurement instruments and maintain accurate records of calibration activities.
- Ensure the integrity of manufactured components by inspecting them according to established specifications and using the required QA tools.
- Maintain meticulous documentation for all materials inspected.
- Coordinate inspection activities with external inspectors to ensure compliance with customer specifications.
Additional Duties:
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
- Demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt to new equipment and methodologies.
Qualifications:
Education: Minimum requirement of a Diploma or GED. A two-year technical college degree or four years of inspection/testing experience is preferred. Current certification from the American Society for Quality may substitute for formal education.
Experience: At least three years of experience in high-precision inspection of machined parts using tools such as Micrometers, Calipers, Height Gauges, and Optical Comparators. Familiarity with dimensional checking of threads and calibration of hand gauges is essential. Experience with metal fabrication, ASME standards, and aerospace or nuclear components is advantageous.
Knowledge and Skills: Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and documents. Must possess strong analytical skills to determine the most effective measurement methods for inspecting machined parts. Capable of reviewing certifications and vendor declarations for compliance with internal and customer standards. Basic mathematical skills and logical problem-solving abilities are required. Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing concepts is beneficial. Proficient computer skills are necessary.
Physical and Working Conditions: This role requires the ability to follow instructions and work effectively with diverse personalities. The position involves frequent standing, walking, and sitting, as well as manual dexterity. Exposure to moderate to loud noise levels is common, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted is required. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is mandatory in certain areas.
