Lead Materials Scientist

Job SummaryWe are seeking a highly skilled Materials Scientist to spearhead the creation of innovative materials, drive new product launches, and provide technical support to our esteemed clientele. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing groundbreaking high-temperature fusion processes and collaborating closely with our team to scale up products and processes from the initial bench phase to high-volume production.
Key Responsibilities- Develop New Materials and Processes: Utilize technical expertise to meet new market/application demands and develop new quartz products and processes.
- Lead New Product Introduction Projects: Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external validation partners to lead new product introduction projects, including IP research, feasibility testing, prototyping, gauge development, pilot testing, cost model construction, and analysis.
- Apply Project Management Skills: Plan, budget, manage time, allocate resources, and manage risks to ensure successful project execution.
- Generate Intellectual Properties: Develop patents, publications, and internal reports, and support the generation of product brochures, marketing communications, and technical training presentations.
- Provide Manufacturing Technical Support: Offer technical support regarding high-temperature processing of quartz and quartz-containing materials.
- Apply Six Sigma Methodology: Utilize statistical, surface, and materials characterization tools for process improvement, failure analysis, and troubleshooting.
- PhD in Material Science & Engineering or Glass Science
- 0-2 years of industry experience
- Expertise in high-temperature processing equipment of quartz, glass, or ceramics
- Proficient in statistical design and analysis of experimental data
- Project management experience
- Ability to collaborate with manufacturing, supplier, and customer teams
- Strong sense of accountability, urgency, and self-direction
- Experience with quartz fusion processes
- Understanding and experience with analytical tools for measuring ambient and high-temperature properties
- Experience designing products for semiconductor processing equipment
- Six Sigma training and/or certifications
