The UofL Health – Brown Cancer Center is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including 44 chemotherapy chairs, 11 private treatment rooms, and four inpatient beds dedicated to chemotherapy and immunotherapy. Our expert physicians specialize in various cancer types, allowing for a comprehensive understanding of patient challenges. We utilize a multidisciplinary care model, ensuring that patients receive thorough evaluations and may even begin treatment on their initial visit. Our commitment to innovation is reflected in our clinical research trials, offering patients access to cutting-edge treatment options. Additionally, our outreach program extends vital education and medical services to rural communities.

Our facility features a modern Bone Marrow Cellular Therapy (BCT) outpatient clinic, with capabilities for inpatient care at UofL Hospital.

Our Radiation Oncology department employs a collaborative treatment approach, utilizing advanced technologies such as CyberKnife, TrueBeam, Trilogy, TomoTherapy, Brachytherapy, and Xoft to deliver optimal patient care.

Key Responsibilities

Role Summary:

The Medical Oncology Nurse Clinician operates within a clinical case management framework to deliver care to adult and elderly patients throughout their treatment journey. Responsibilities include coordinating patient care, managing Medical Oncology clinics for physician consultations, and ensuring timely completion of necessary labs and tests. The Nurse Clinician will facilitate initial chemotherapy scheduling, provide educational resources for patients and their families to promote family-centered care, and collaborate with triage for extended clinical support. Utilizing nursing competencies, the Nurse Clinician aims to ensure safe and effective care for patients and their families.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN); candidates must enroll in a BSN program within two years of hire.
  • Current certification in ONS Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in oncology patient care.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ONCC certification (OCN, BMTCN, and/or CBCN); candidates must obtain certification within one year of eligibility.
