Key Responsibilities

Role Summary:

The Infusion Registered Nurse is a licensed healthcare professional responsible for delivering evidence-based care to adult patients undergoing various cancer treatments, including chemotherapy and immunotherapy. This role involves collaboration with a multidisciplinary healthcare team to ensure patient-centered care, utilizing expertise in infusion therapy, oncology nursing standards, safe handling of hazardous medications, and effective side effect management. The Infusion RN is expected to demonstrate technical proficiency, sound clinical judgment, and excellent communication skills while performing patient assessments, reviewing laboratory results, providing education, administering infusion therapies, and maintaining venous access.

Primary Duties Include:

  • Conducting nursing assessments and identifying changes in patient conditions by recognizing signs and symptoms of adverse reactions.
  • Communicating relevant information regarding treatment and associated side effects, ensuring medication reconciliation with each patient interaction.
  • Reviewing and interpreting abnormal laboratory results and diagnostic tests, communicating findings to the appropriate healthcare provider.
  • Verifying treatment parameters prior to initiation, including calculations of ANC, BSA, and dosages in accordance with established protocols.
  • Administering chemotherapy via various routes (IV, SQ, IM, IP, Central line, Peripheral, and PO) following Oncology Nursing Society guidelines and monitoring patients for adverse reactions.
  • Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team, including clinical trials, to ensure adherence to treatment protocols and thorough documentation of patient conditions and adverse events.
  • Addressing patient concerns and coordinating follow-up treatments.
  • Providing educational resources to patients and families regarding treatment plans and side effects, adapting teaching methods to meet individual needs.
Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN); candidates must enroll in a BSN program within two years of hire.
  • Current certification in ONS Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two years of experience in oncology patient care.
  • ONCC certification (OCN, BMTCN, and/or CBCN); candidates must obtain within one year of eligibility.
