The UofL Health – Brown Cancer Center is dedicated to providing exceptional care for patients with various types of cancers. Our facility is equipped with 44 chemotherapy chairs, 11 private treatment rooms, and four inpatient beds, enabling us to deliver comprehensive chemotherapy and immunotherapy services. Our specialized physicians focus on distinct disease sites, ensuring a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by our patients. Our multidisciplinary care model allows patients to consult with multiple physicians during their initial visit, often facilitating same-day infusion treatments. We pride ourselves on our innovative research initiatives, offering clinical trials that explore new treatment modalities. Additionally, our outreach program extends education, screening, and medical services to surrounding communities.

Our state-of-the-art bone marrow cellular therapy outpatient clinic is complemented by inpatient capabilities at UofL Hospital.

We also provide advanced Radiation Oncology services, utilizing a multidisciplinary approach and the latest technology, including CyberKnife, TrueBeam, Trilogy, TomoTherapy, Brachytherapy, and Xoft.

Key Responsibilities

Role Summary:

The Medical Oncology Nurse Clinician functions within a clinical case management framework to deliver care to adult and elderly patients throughout their treatment journey. Responsibilities include coordinating patient care, managing Medical Oncology clinics for physician consultations, and ensuring timely completion of laboratory tests and procedures. The Nurse Clinician will schedule initial chemotherapy sessions and provide educational support to patients and their families, fostering family-centered care outcomes. Additionally, the Nurse Clinician will collaborate with triage to extend clinical support as needed. Utilizing nursing competencies, the Nurse Clinician aims to achieve safe and optimal care for patients and their families.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN); must enroll in a BSN program within two years of employment.
  • Current certification in ONS Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in oncology patient care.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ONCC certification (OCN, BMTCN, and/or CBCN); must obtain within one year of eligibility.
