Healthcare Support Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY
A Healthcare Support Specialist is responsible for performing a variety of administrative and clinical tasks under the supervision of a licensed physician. The role encompasses essential functions that contribute to the efficient operation of the medical office and the well-being of patients.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Identify yourself as a Healthcare Support Specialist by wearing a name badge at all times while on duty.
- Under the direct supervision of a licensed physician, the following clinical responsibilities may be undertaken:
- Provide basic healthcare services or medical treatments.
- Apply dressings, bandages, or splints as needed.
- Evaluate patients' physical conditions to assist in diagnosis or treatment.
- Support healthcare providers during medical procedures.
- Collect biological samples from patients for testing.
- Conduct diagnostic assessments to evaluate patient health.
- Manage prescription refills or authorizations.
- Dispose of biomedical waste according to established standards.
- Communicate technical medical information to patients effectively.
- Administer medications and perform non-intravenous injections.
- Interview patients to gather necessary medical information.
- Maintain inventory of medical supplies and equipment.
- Operate medical devices and equipment proficiently.
- Perform general office tasks, including administrative duties.
- Prepare medical instruments or equipment for clinical use.
- Organize patient treatment areas for efficient use.
- Prepare medical billing information as directed.
- Document vital statistics and other health-related information accurately.
- Schedule patient appointments and procedures as required.
- Clean patient rooms and medical equipment as necessary.
- Record all patient interactions in the electronic medical record system.
- Understand the limitations of the role as a Healthcare Support Specialist.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or GED is the minimum educational requirement.
- Must possess and maintain Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (CPR and AED) certification.
- Must hold and maintain Medical Assistant (MA) certification/registration or an equivalent medical/clinical certification from an accredited organization.

- Exhibit strong customer service skills and interpersonal abilities.
- Demonstrate attention to detail and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Possess integrity and character, with a commitment to positively impacting patients and colleagues.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with staff at all organizational levels.
- Proficient in computer applications, including MS Office, with a typing speed of at least 40 words per minute preferred.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
- Ability to communicate with individuals from diverse socio-economic backgrounds.
- Demonstrate active listening skills and the ability to ask relevant questions.
- Maintain a professional demeanor while respecting patient privacy.
- Effectively prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Occasional standing or walking, with activity up to 50% of the time.
- Frequent keyboarding and dexterity, with activity up to 50% of the time.
- Capability to focus on a computer screen for extended periods.
- Ability to perform repetitive hand and finger motions.
- Mobility to work in various positions (standing, sitting, bending, and walking) for extended periods.
- Effective verbal communication skills are essential.
- Ability to see and hear effectively is required.
