Job Summary

Labcorp is seeking a Medical Secretary/Administrative Specialist to provide support to the team in a clinical laboratory setting. The successful candidate will be responsible for processing data, providing secretarial support, and performing other administrative duties as required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process all data through computer system for Surgical Pathology and Cytology reports
  • Provide secretarial support to pathologists and histology labs
  • Perform other secretarial duties as required
  • Provide client services via telephone and in person in the areas of pathology
  • Provide information to clients via reporting routines in EPIC, generates and distributes reports to appropriate patient care areas, faxes reports and gives verbal results as necessary
  • Prepare, distribute slides and pathology reports for mailing upon request for outside consultations or further testing in a timely manner
  • Maintain records and billing information to monitor return of all materials or specimens
  • Enter and document critical information related to the EPIC system into the appropriate computer data section
  • Prepare, document, and track slide/block requests and send out testing
  • Responsible for the maintenance and distribution of daily pathologist assignments and on call schedules and sends out notification of any last-minute changes
  • Manage incoming and outgoing mail and assists Pathology Manager as needed
  • Responsible for accessioning incoming slides
  • Establishes independent work plan and prioritizes using established policy, procedure and protocol to ensure timely completion of assigned work
Requirements
  • High school diploma required
  • Additional schooling equivalent to two years of college or business school highly preferred
  • Customer Service experience
  • 1-3 years' experience in a Clinical/Pathology Laboratory
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and with proven computer and secretarial/transcription skills highly preferred
  • Strong reading, writing and communication skills
  • Must be detail orientated
  • Able to work independently with a minimum of supervision in routine matters
  • Excellent customer service skills
