Key Responsibilities
As a Patient Access Specialist, you will be the first point of contact for families and visitors, ensuring a welcoming and professional atmosphere. Your role will involve:
  • Accurately registering new patients, ensuring complete and precise demographic information.
  • Checking patients in and out, verifying all necessary information at each visit.
  • Providing, collecting, and documenting all required patient forms in accordance with established procedures.
  • Efficiently scheduling appointments using our automated system, adhering to office protocols.
  • Maintaining daily appointment templates under the guidance of the office manager.
  • Contacting patients to confirm future appointments and verify demographic and insurance details.
  • Verifying insurance eligibility and benefits using established automated processes.
  • Initiating the Children's Connect sign-up process for new or inactive patients.
  • Responding to appointment messaging in a timely manner.
  • Managing patient charts and releasing information in line with organizational protocols.
  • Scanning documents into electronic medical records as required.
  • Collecting co-pays and managing past due accounts according to protocol.
  • Completing daily work queues to ensure all demographic and insurance information is accurate for billing.
  • Supporting quality initiatives in patient care as directed.
  • Assisting with miscellaneous reports and correspondence as needed.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized lobby and patient areas.

Qualifications
Education:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
Experience:
  • Minimum one year of customer service experience preferred.
  • One year of experience in a healthcare or insurance environment preferred.
Skills:
  • Strong communication, listening, and organizational skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency and familiarity with Microsoft operating systems.
  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations and operate standard office equipment.
  • Knowledge of billing and insurance processes.
  • Familiarity with patient scheduling systems in a medical setting.
Certifications:
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association preferred.
  • Medical interpretation certification may be required based on position.
  • Bilingual (English-Spanish) skills may be required for some roles.
  • Flexibility to travel to various clinics as needed.
  • Availability to work shifts that may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
