Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Patient Access Representative II to join our team at University Hospitals. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide comprehensive administrative support to our patients and staff, ensuring a seamless and efficient experience for all.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interview and register patients in a face-to-face setting or over the phone, ensuring accurate and timely data entry.
  • Validate medical, demographic, insurance, financial, and business data to maintain master patient index integrity and create accurate claims.
  • Prepare patient materials, including forms, labels, brochures, and surveys, to ensure a welcoming and informative experience.
  • Maintain confidential health records, process physician orders, and schedule patients with precision and attention to detail.
  • Identify and communicate the need for interpreter services to ensure effective patient communication.
  • Provide patient education on third-party coverage and liabilities, ensuring patients understand their options and responsibilities.
  • Communicate possible payment options and connect patients with financial counselors as needed.
  • Collect, post, and balance co-pays, deductibles, and other patient payments with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Perform additional support and backup functions within the department, providing cross-coverage as needed.
  • Help mentor new hires, sharing your expertise and knowledge to ensure a smooth onboarding process.
  • Maintain expertise in PAS legal and compliance requirements, incorporating principles into workflows to ensure seamless operations.
  • Handle a wide range of patient inquiries regarding services and logistics, ensuring patients can access care with maximum throughput and minimal delay.
  • Recruit and train patients to access My UH Care Personal Health Record, empowering them to take control of their healthcare.
  • Exceed productivity and quality standards, consistently delivering high-quality results in a fast-paced environment.
Requirements
  • High School Equivalent/GED (Required) and Associate's Degree or progress towards degree (Preferred) and Medical Terminology (Preferred)
  • 2+ years experience in patient registration, scheduling, banking, office, or related medical field using computers (Required)
  • Bachelor's degree accepted in lieu of 1 year of work experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Basic knowledge of third-party payer and managed care insurance requirements
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology
  • Demonstrated ability to use PCs and toggle between multiple applications, Microsoft Office suite, and general office equipment
  • Experience using clinical computer systems
  • Detail-oriented and organized, with good analytical and problem-solving ability
  • Notable client service, communication, and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to function independently and as a team player in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and excellent spelling
