Position Summary:

We are in search of a meticulous and proficient Laboratory Analyst I & II to become a vital part of our Analytical Services team. This role offers a competitive hourly wage of $21-25 while engaging in essential environmental assessments. In this capacity, you will examine samples to determine chemical compositions in accordance with NELAC standards and EPA regulations. For those advancing to the Lab Analyst II/On-site GC Operator role, there will be opportunities to apply your skills on-site, traveling to various locations up to 25% of the time for On-site GC analysis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sample Analysis: Conduct thorough analyses of samples, quantify chemical compositions, and prepare necessary standards and quality control samples.
  • Equipment Operation: Utilize and maintain sophisticated laboratory instruments such as Ion Chromatography, Gas Chromatography (GC-FID, TCD, FPD), and CVAA.
  • Documentation: Keep precise records of your work, ensuring meticulous laboratory notebooks, recordings, and software data.
  • Maintenance: Perform routine and comprehensive maintenance on equipment, including troubleshooting with diagnostic tools like Voltage-Ohm-Meter (VOM).
  • Inventory Management: Oversee inventory by ordering lab supplies and ensuring adherence to accreditation standards, including bi-annual audit samples and MDL studies.
  • On-site Responsibilities: For those in the On-site GC Operator role, travel to industrial sites to conduct GC analysis, including equipment setup, calibration, and result reporting.

Interdepartmental Coordination:

  • Collaboration: Work alongside team members and management to facilitate smooth laboratory operations.
  • SOP Review: Review and revise SOPs and guidance documents to ensure compliance with NELAC and EPA standards.

Client and Project Management:

  • Sample Custody: Maintain sample custody and adhere to protocols for hazardous waste disposal.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in chemistry or a related scientific field (Associate's degree or some college acceptable for Analyst I).
  • Experience: 1-3+ years in a laboratory environment (Analyst I is entry-level).
  • Experience with hazardous chemicals is preferred.
  • Ability to obtain OSHA certification, H2S Safety Awareness, First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications.
  • Familiarity: Knowledge of various sampling methods and stack testing is desired.
  • Driver's License: Valid driver's license and capability to drive for extended periods (required for Lab Analyst II/On-site GC Operator).
  • Drug Test: Ability to pass a drug test.

  • Strong understanding of chemistry and laboratory safety.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks.

  • Capability to lead a team and provide training as necessary.
  • Professional demeanor and appearance.

Work Environment:

  • Primarily laboratory-based at our designated location, with occasional travel to industrial sites for On-site GC analysis (up to 25% for Lab Analyst II/On-site GC Operator).

Physical Demands:

  • The role necessitates sitting for extended periods, manual dexterity, and the ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory, particularly when visiting industrial sites.
