Position Summary:
We are in search of a meticulous and proficient Laboratory Analyst I & II to enhance our Analytical Services division. This role offers a competitive compensation of $21-25 per hour while playing a vital role in essential environmental assessments. Your responsibilities will include sample analysis to determine chemical composition in compliance with NELAC standards and EPA regulations. For those advancing to the Lab Analyst II/On-site GC Operator position, you will also engage in fieldwork, traveling to various sites up to 25% of the time to conduct On-site GC evaluations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct sample analyses, quantify chemical components, and prepare quality control samples and standards.
- Utilize and maintain sophisticated laboratory instruments such as Ion Chromatography, Gas Chromatography (GC-FID, TCD, FPD), and CVAA.
- Document all activities thoroughly, ensuring meticulous laboratory records and data management.
- Perform both routine and comprehensive maintenance on equipment, including troubleshooting with diagnostic tools like Voltage-Ohm-Meter (VOM).
- Oversee inventory management by ordering laboratory supplies and ensuring adherence to accreditation standards, including bi-annual audit samples and MDL studies.
- For those in the On-site GC Operator role, travel to industrial locations to execute GC analyses, which includes equipment setup, calibration, and result reporting.
Interdepartmental Collaboration:
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and management to facilitate smooth laboratory operations.
- Review and revise SOPs and procedural documents to ensure compliance with NELAC and EPA standards.
Client and Project Oversight:
- Maintain sample custody and adhere to protocols for hazardous waste management.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in chemistry or a related scientific discipline (Associate's degree or some college experience acceptable for Analyst I).
- Experience: 1-3+ years in a laboratory environment (Analyst I is an entry-level position).
- Experience handling hazardous materials is preferred.
- Capability to obtain OSHA certification, H2S Safety Awareness, First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications.
- Familiarity with various sampling methods and stack testing is advantageous.
- Valid driver's license and ability to drive for extended durations (required for Lab Analyst II/On-site GC Operator).
- Ability to pass a drug screening.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Strong understanding of chemistry and laboratory safety protocols.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
- Excellent organizational abilities, attention to detail, and capacity to manage multiple tasks.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to lead teams and provide training as necessary.
- Professional demeanor and appearance are essential.
Work Environment:
- Primarily laboratory-based at our designated location, with occasional travel to industrial sites for On-site GC evaluations (up to 25% for Lab Analyst II/On-site GC Operator).
Physical Requirements:
- The position necessitates extended periods of sitting, manual dexterity, and the capacity to lift up to 30 lbs.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory, particularly when visiting industrial locations.
