Job Overview

Position Summary

The Fleet Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring that the entire fleet of vehicles is maintained in optimal condition, facilitating the efficient movement of products.

Key Responsibilities

This job description does not limit management's authority to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities at any time.

  • Oversee fleet maintenance through scheduled preventative measures; maintain precise inventory records.
  • Tasked with scheduling and delegating responsibilities to fleet technicians.
  • Provide direct oversight of all maintenance tasks performed on the fleet.
  • Assist in the recruitment and training of new staff members.
  • Communicate effectively with the Office Manager, Plant Manager, Route Supervisor, and General Manager to enhance fleet efficiency.
  • May oversee overall logistics operations within the facility.
  • Manage purchasing and expenditures in accordance with the established budget.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of both the interior and exterior of the fleet vehicles.
  • Maintain compliance with DOT recordkeeping; monitor tachograph cards to adhere to all company, federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Coordinate with external haulers for product pickup and delivery; verify finished product weights to ensure billing accuracy and profit margins.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a mechanical role is necessary.
  • 1-2+ years of supervisory experience, preferably in an industrial or plant environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced training or experience as a fleet mechanic is preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and organizational abilities.
  • Good mechanical and administrative skills.
  • Proven leadership capabilities; able to both give and receive direction.
  • Ability to address minor equipment issues or various situations effectively.

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to walk, stand, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crawl, and crouch.
  • Frequently required to lift up to 50 lbs; occasionally must push, pull, move, or lift up to 100 lbs.
  • Regularly required to reach with hands and arms.

Work Environment

Job functions will be performed in an automotive shop setting or outdoors on plant premises.
