Job Summary

The Associate Director of Facilities and Operations is a key leadership position responsible for the overall management of the Student Recreation Center's facilities and operations. This includes managing a team of professionals and classified staff, overseeing facility maintenance and custodial services, capital projects, space planning, and risk management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and supervision to a team of professionals and classified staff, including the Assistant Director, Facilities and Aquatics, Coordinator, Member Services, and Night Custodians.
  • Directly oversee the recruitment, hiring, training, evaluation, and day-to-day supervision of staff.
  • Ensure effective recruitment, onboarding, and training plans are implemented for all staff.
  • Approve bi-weekly payroll and out-of-office leave requests for all direct reports.
  • Manage facility maintenance and custodial services, including regular and preventative maintenance, custodial operations, and risk management.
  • Oversee capital projects, including identifying facility issues, managing the lifecycle of capital projects, and ensuring clear and timely communication with stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement space planning strategies to modernize facility spaces, improve space utilization, and plan for campus growth.
  • Manage the inventory and procurement of custodial equipment, chemicals, paper products, and supplies.
  • Develop and evaluate policies and procedures to ensure facility operations are in compliance with established departmental, university, and state guidelines.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree and 7 years of experience or equivalent, including 3 years of managerial experience.
  • Two or more years of experience providing leadership to a recreation department at an Assistant Director level or higher.
  • Two or more years of experience developing and leading departmental risk management initiatives at the Assistant Director level or higher at a higher education institution.
  • Two or more years of experience supervising custodial and/or maintenance professionals at the Assistant Director level or higher at a recreation center.
  • Two or more years of experience with capital construction projects at the Assistant Director level or higher.
  • Two or more years of experience supporting a facility with a pool and aquatics program at a higher education institution.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in oral and written communication, including teaching, developing, and delivering presentation content and materials.
  • Experience working with a recreation-based membership management software application platform.
  • Experience with facility management software.
  • Engagement in NIRSA, AORE, or other recreation professional associations.
  • Experience programming or service delivery for diverse community populations.
