Position Overview
The primary aim of this role is to manage and engage in the custody, safety, and treatment of offenders during their transportation to various destinations. This position operates autonomously, with limited oversight, and reports significant activities through regular meetings.

Key Responsibilities
The responsibilities outlined below represent the majority of the time dedicated to this role. Management may assign additional duties related to the nature of the work as necessary.

  • Engages with Federal, State, and local law enforcement agencies, maintaining professional relationships while traveling within and outside state lines.
  • Plans, executes, and evaluates all aspects of transportation to ensure a secure and controlled travel environment.
  • Responds promptly to any incidents or emergencies that may arise.
  • Adheres to departmental security protocols and procedures.
  • Transports offenders, relevant documentation, or materials between various locations.
  • Keeps accurate logs or records of transportation activities.
  • Escorts and accompanies offenders within facilities, courthouses, or during meetings.
  • Prepares, maintains, reviews, and processes various reports and documentation, including booking documents and transport logs.
  • Ensures the cleanliness and safety of holding areas and transport vehicles for offender care.
  • Communicates with correctional facilities, jails, and other law enforcement agencies regarding offender departures and estimated arrival times.
  • Follows established procedures and protocols during offender transport to maintain a secure environment.
  • Reviews, manages, and verifies all related travel and court documents, including offender identification.
  • Utilizes restraining devices for the security and transport of offenders.
  • Provides counseling and observes offenders as necessary to maintain a stable environment and identify any unusual or prohibited behavior that could pose a threat.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
High School Graduation or GED equivalent is required.
One (1) year of experience in direct supervision of secure offenders or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Physical Requirements
This role involves physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement. Key physical demands include:

  • Regular and punctual attendance, including mandatory overtime as determined by management.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, carrying, stooping, and climbing.
  • Lifting, pushing, and pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent travel to various state locations.

Work Environment Hazards
Job conditions may lead to injury or health hazards despite precautions, including:

  • Unexpected natural disasters.
  • Unpredictable behaviors from the public.

Special Certifications and Licenses
Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Submit to a pre-employment polygraph test.
  • Complete physical fitness standards, annual re-certification, and training.
  • Possess a valid CPR certification or obtain one within three months of employment.
  • Successfully complete twenty-four hours of transportation training within the first year.
  • Maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
