About the Role

Hennepin Healthcare is seeking a skilled Ophthalmic Assistant, Technician, or Technologist to join our team in the CSC Eye Clinic. This full-time position will work days and is responsible for performing and supervising diagnostic tests for visual acuity and assisting ophthalmologists in the diagnosis and care of eye diseases.

Responsibilities
  • Obtain and document patient medical and ophthalmic history
  • Perform and document diagnostic tests and studies, including visual acuity, refraction, and intra-ocular pressure
  • Assist in office surgery and administer ophthalmic medications as needed
  • Operate and maintain medical equipment, and assist in the planning and selection of new equipment
  • May assist with clinical research studies and orient medical residents in basic ophthalmic examination techniques
Qualifications
  • Completion of a two-year Ophthalmic Technology program accredited by The Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO)
  • Certification or eligibility for certification as an Ophthalmic Assistant, Technician, or Ophthalmic Technologist
  • Newly hired or promoted Ophthalmic Technicians must begin the certification process within six months of hire and pass both parts of the exam within one year
