Position Overview: Hennepin Healthcare is seeking a dedicated Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), Technician (COT), or Technologist (COMT) to join our dynamic team in the Eye Clinic. This full-time role will primarily involve daytime shifts.

About Hennepin Healthcare: Our integrated healthcare system encompasses a comprehensive range of services, including a renowned Level I Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center, a large outpatient clinic, and a network of primary care facilities throughout the region. Key Responsibilities:

  • Gather and document comprehensive medical and ophthalmic histories from patients.
  • Conduct and record a variety of diagnostic assessments, including visual acuity and refraction tests.
  • Administer tests for color vision, intra-ocular pressure, and other essential evaluations.
  • Perform slit lamp photography and assist with contact lens fittings.
  • Support office surgical procedures as needed.
  • Manage patient communications, including triaging calls and walk-ins.
  • Ensure the operation and maintenance of medical and diagnostic equipment.
  • Participate in the planning and selection of new technological equipment.
  • Assist with clinical research initiatives and orient medical residents in ophthalmic examination techniques.
  • Engage in related duties as required, following appropriate training.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a two-year accredited Ophthalmic Technology program.
  • Certification or eligibility for certification as an Ophthalmic Assistant, Technician, or Technologist.
  • New hires or promoted technicians must initiate certification within six months and complete it within one year.
