Position Overview

The Veterans Health Administration is seeking a dedicated Physiatrist specializing in Integrative Pain Medicine and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) within the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) department.

Essential Qualifications

To be eligible for this role, candidates must fulfill the following Basic Requirements:

  • Citizenship: Must be a United States citizen; non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens are unavailable.
  • Education: A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
  • Licensure: Must hold a current, unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state or territory.
  • Residency: Completion of an accredited residency program in a core specialty leading to board certification eligibility.
  • Language Proficiency: Must demonstrate proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Qualifications: Board certification in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with a focus on Pain Management and experience in treating Traumatic Brain Injury.

Physical and Mental Requirements

The role requires physical capabilities such as occasional lifting, prolonged standing, and the ability to adapt to a dynamic work environment. Mental requirements include strong problem-solving skills, effective communication, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Key Responsibilities

The Physiatrist will:

  • Develop expertise in a recovery-oriented approach to chronic pain management, utilizing a biopsychosocial model.
  • Diagnose and treat patients with acute and chronic pain, coordinating interdisciplinary rehabilitation plans.
  • Employ non-surgical treatment modalities, including non-narcotic medications and non-pharmacological therapies.
  • Perform office-based procedures such as joint injections and EMG-guided injections.
  • Provide comprehensive patient education regarding treatment options and secure informed consent for procedures.
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to optimize patient care and enhance quality of life.
