Position Overview

The Veterans Health Administration is seeking a dedicated full-time Physiatrist specializing in Integrative Pain Management and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) within the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) department.

Key Responsibilities

The Physiatrist will be responsible for:
  • Developing expertise in recovery-oriented practices for chronic pain management, utilizing a biopsychosocial approach. A preference for a Whole Health and Integrative Pain Medicine methodology is desired, alongside a DEA license for prescribing controlled substances when necessary.
  • Diagnosing and managing interdisciplinary rehabilitation plans for patients experiencing acute and chronic pain due to various conditions, including musculoskeletal disorders, stroke, spasticity, traumatic brain injury, and post-operative recovery.
  • Employing non-surgical treatment strategies, such as non-narcotic medications and non-pharmacological interventions, while also leveraging whole health services. Experience with office-based procedures like joint injections is advantageous.
  • Leading the Polytrauma/TBI medical team, typically managing 2-4 new consultations weekly.
  • Providing backup support for the inpatient Rehabilitation Unit.
  • Offering expertise in Spinal Cord Injury and Amputee rehabilitation.
  • Communicating treatment risks, benefits, and alternatives to patients and obtaining informed consent prior to invasive procedures.
  • Maintaining BLS certification and fostering respectful interactions with patients, families, and healthcare colleagues.
  • Adhering to information security policies and collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to optimize patient care and quality of life for Veterans.
  • Ensuring compliance with all legal and regulatory standards.
  • Providing intermittent inpatient rehabilitation coverage as needed.
Compensation and Benefits

Preferred Qualifications

Board certification in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with experience in Pain Management and Traumatic Brain Injury is highly desirable.

Physical Requirements

The role involves occasional lifting, prolonged standing, and frequent interactions requiring effective communication and problem-solving skills.
