Position Overview:
The Veterans Health Administration is seeking a dedicated full-time Physiatrist to join our team, focusing on Integrative Pain Medicine and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) within the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) service.

Qualifications:
To be eligible for this role, candidates must fulfill the following Basic Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship is required; non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens are unavailable.
  • A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
  • A current, unrestricted medical license to practice in any U.S. State, Territory, or the District of Columbia.

Residency Training:
Candidates must have completed residency training in an accredited core specialty program, leading to board certification eligibility.

Preferred Qualifications:
Board certification in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with expertise in Pain Management and TBI.

Physical and Mental Requirements:
This position involves physical activities such as lifting, prolonged standing, and frequent movement. Mental requirements include problem-solving, effective communication, and the ability to adapt to a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities:
The Physiatrist will:

  • Develop and implement recovery-oriented practices for chronic pain management using a biopsychosocial approach.
  • Utilize a Whole Health and Integrative Pain Medicine framework, while being comfortable prescribing controlled medications when necessary.
  • Diagnose and treat patients with acute and chronic pain, creating interdisciplinary rehabilitation plans.
  • Employ non-surgical treatment options, including non-narcotic medications and non-pharmacological modalities.
  • Conduct office-based procedures, such as joint injections and electromyogram testing.
  • Serve as the medical lead for Polytrauma/TBI cases, collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to enhance patient care.
