Key Responsibilities:

  • Retail Accounting Services: Oversee comprehensive accounting services for our affiliated stores, including the preparation of monthly financial reports, sales and use tax returns, payroll processing, and annual corporate and personal tax filings.
  • Tax Compliance Management: Establish and maintain taxability tables within our ERP system to guarantee precise sales tax reporting, as well as compliance with cigarette, tobacco, and other municipal taxes.
  • Corporate Tax Responsibilities: Support tax filings and reporting for Certco's corporate accounting, ensuring adherence to all applicable state and federal regulations.

Position Overview

This role encompasses providing full retail accounting support to several of our affiliated stores, which includes generating monthly financial statements, preparing sales and use tax returns, managing payroll, and completing annual corporate and personal tax filings. Additionally, the Accounting/Tax Manager will establish and maintain taxability tables for Certco to accurately report sales tax, cigarette and tobacco taxes, and other municipal tax obligations within the ERP system, while assisting with corporate accounting filings and reporting as necessary.

Essential Functions

Retail Accounting Support:

  • Deliver exceptional customer service to ensure timely issuance of reports and returns.
  • Educate clients on utilizing accounting software as needed.
  • Provide oversight and guidance to team members on payroll, financial reporting, tax preparation, and various projects.
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations, sales tax returns, and financial statements.
  • Handle year-end 1099 reporting and personal property tax returns.
  • Prepare and review tax returns for Corporations, S-Corporations, Partnerships, and Individuals using tax preparation software.
  • Maintain fixed asset and depreciation records.
  • Address customer inquiries regarding accounting and tax matters.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Corporate Accounting Responsibilities:

  • Maintain taxability tables in the ERP system to ensure compliance with tax reporting.
  • Stay informed about tax laws and regulations to ensure adherence.
  • Prepare and file various tax reports, including sales tax, cigarette and tobacco tax, and other municipal filings relevant to wholesale grocery.
  • Guide and supervise associates in gathering and maintaining necessary data for tax reporting.
  • Assist in tax audits by providing required documentation and explanations.
  • Collaborate with category managers to ensure new item setups include appropriate tax code classifications.
  • Conduct periodic reviews and audits to identify and mitigate risks related to tax reporting and data management.
  • Work with internal and external auditors to provide requested information and resolve compliance issues.
  • Maintain regular attendance and adhere to the Company Attendance Policy.

Qualifications

  • CPA license required
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience
