Position Overview
This role encompasses providing comprehensive retail accounting support to various member stores, including the preparation of monthly financial statements, sales and use tax returns, payroll management, and annual corporate and personal tax filings. Additionally, the Accounting/Tax Manager will establish and configure taxability tables for Certco to accurately report sales tax, cigarette and tobacco taxes, and other municipal tax filings within the ERP system, while assisting with necessary filings and reporting for Certco's corporate accounting.
Essential Job Functions
Retail Accounting Support for Member Stores:
- Deliver exceptional customer service to ensure timely issuance of reports and returns to meet deadlines.
- Educate clients on utilizing accounting software when necessary.
- Provide guidance and oversight to team members on payroll, financial reporting, tax preparation, and various projects.
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliations, sales tax returns, and financial statements.
- Prepare year-end 1099 reports and personal property tax submissions.
- Prepare and review tax returns for Corporations, S-Corporations, Partnerships, and Individuals using tax preparation software.
- Maintain records for fixed assets and depreciation.
- Address customer inquiries regarding accounting and tax-related matters.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
Corporate Accounting Responsibilities:
- Maintain taxability tables for Certco in the ERP system to ensure compliance with tax reporting.
- Stay informed about tax laws and regulations to guarantee compliance.
- Prepare and file various tax reports, including sales tax, cigarette and tobacco tax submissions, and other municipal filings specific to wholesale grocery.
- Guide and supervise associates in gathering and maintaining necessary data for tax reporting.
- Assist in tax audits by providing requested documentation and explanations.
- Collaborate with category managers to ensure proper classification of tax codes for new item setups.
- Conduct periodic reviews and audits to identify and mitigate risks related to tax reporting and master data management.
- Work with internal and external auditors to provide requested information and resolve compliance issues.
- Maintain regular attendance and adhere to the Company Attendance Policy.
Competencies
- Proficient in using accounting software, including QuickBooks, FAS, Sage HRMS, MS Excel, and tax preparation software.
- Demonstrated experience in tax reporting and compliance.
- Familiarity with tax laws and regulations in relevant jurisdictions.
- Attention to detail and ability to coordinate multiple activities simultaneously.
- Strong communication skills with customers, colleagues, and business contacts.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
Education and Experience
- CPA license required
- 3-5 years of relevant experience
