THIS POSITION OFFERS UP TO 32 HOURS PER WEEK, MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY
STARTING COMPENSATION IS $18.00 PER HOUR

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Creating a safe, engaging, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment for children's growth and readiness for school; Responsible for planning, organizing, and initiating recreational programs in alignment with facility guidelines; Key responsibilities encompass implementing lesson plans, supervising and ensuring the safety of participants, managing cash handling and daily reporting, overseeing inventory, demonstrating superior communication skills, maintaining child discipline, processing registrations, utilizing computer skills, and completing miscellaneous daily paperwork as required by (DCF), along with general cleanup duties.
  • Ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of children by maintaining a clean environment, taking appropriate actions during accidents or illnesses, and promoting hygiene, healthy eating habits, and manners.
  • Encouraging family participation in the program, maintaining daily communication with parents in a professional and courteous manner, and participating in parent conferences.
  • Planning and facilitating the social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development of children in a developmentally appropriate setting, utilizing an approved curriculum.
  • Observing, recording, and documenting children's progress effectively.
  • Exhibiting the ability to give and receive instructions while applying consistent courtesy and tact in public interactions and/or confrontational situations.
  • Analyzing and interpreting problems to draw informed conclusions.
  • Prioritizing multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Possessing knowledge of modern office equipment and various computer programs and applications.
  • Understanding report and record maintenance principles and techniques.
  • Familiarity with the policies and procedures of the assigned Department/Division.
  • Demonstrating skill in operating various computer or electronic devices.
  • Exhibiting strong organizational, prioritization, and time management skills.
  • Communicating effectively through written, verbal, electronic, and visual means for clarity and expression.
  • Having on-site decision-making authority and relaying significant matters to the Supervisor on a daily basis.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
Individuals in this role must adhere to their assigned work schedule. Staff in Parks and Recreation must be prepared to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School diploma/GED is required.
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) or equivalent is required.
  • Completion of the Emergent Literacy for VPK instructor's course is required. A 40-hour training course from the Department of Children and Family Services (DCF) is mandatory.
  • Preferred: Two (2) years or more of successful experience in a child-related field.
  • First Aid and CPR certification are required within ninety (90) days of hire or promotion.
  • Responsible for completing 10 additional hours of in-service training annually as outlined in (DCF) guidelines.
MINIMUM STANDARDS REQUIRED:
  • Tasks are performed both indoors and outdoors, subject to varying weather conditions and uneven terrain. The position involves light physical demands, such as exerting up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Tasks may require prolonged periods of visual concentration and moderate levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
  • Requires the ability to speak, hear (perceive sound), and/or signal individuals to convey and exchange information; differentiate between colors or shades of color; read a variety of materials, sometimes complex; apply principles of rational problem-solving; record and deliver information, explain procedures, issue and follow oral and written instructions; and communicate effectively and efficiently in Standard English as the primary language while performing job duties.
