Food Safety Quality Assurance Technician

Position Overview:

This role serves as an introductory position within the Food Safety and Quality Assurance sector. The individual will gather technical data regarding ingredients, products, and packaging. Analytical evaluations will be conducted to ensure that incoming materials, in-process items, and final products adhere to established food safety and quality regulations. Effective communication with Production Team Members, Production Leadership, and FSQA Leadership is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Follow safety protocols and promote a culture of safety among colleagues.
  • Advocate for Food Safety and Quality Standards.
  • Encourage Human Safety, Food Safety, and High-Quality Standards throughout the organization.
  • Document food safety and quality concerns effectively, ensuring timely communication with FSQA Supervisor, Production Supervisor, and/or FSQA Manager.
  • Conduct inspections during production and after sanitation to ensure compliance with established standards, including but not limited to Identity Preserved products such as Kosher, Organic, Gluten Free, Non-GMO Project Verified, and Halal.
  • Perform audits on production and packaging lines, documenting compliance information.
  • Collect and evaluate ingredient and product samples for adherence to analytical, physical, chemical, and sensory specifications.
  • Audit metal detection and weight control systems.
  • Record data on finished goods and work-in-progress.
  • Identify out-of-specification results and communicate findings to production promptly.
  • Place non-conforming products on hold and complete necessary documentation.
  • Report food safety, employee safety, and quality concerns.
  • Carry out additional tasks as assigned.

New hires entering directly into the Level I Technician role are expected to complete the Food Safety Professional Certification, Track 1 training within six months of commencing employment.

Education and Experience:

A High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Proficiency in reading, writing, and communicating in English is necessary. Vocational training in Quality Systems is preferred. Experience in Food Manufacturing or Quality Assurance is advantageous.
