The Cardiac/Medical Intensive Care Unit at UTSW's William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital is dedicated to providing exceptional specialized care for critically ill patients across North Texas and surrounding regions. With a focus on patient-centered design and advanced facilities, this Multi-Specialty ICU empowers our team to collaborate effectively and achieve optimal outcomes for high-acuity patients.

This is a full-time position eligible for benefits. UTSW offers a comprehensive benefits package, including:

· Zero-premium medical coverage for employees starting on the first day
· Participation in the State of Texas defined-benefit pension plan

Education and Experience

· BLS/ACLS, NIHSS & BSN are required; MSN & CCRN are preferred.
· Must be a graduate of an accredited Nursing program.
· A minimum of three years of RN experience is required, with specialty areas potentially requiring additional experience based on unit standards.
· A valid TX BON or Compact State RN License is mandatory.

Key Responsibilities

1. Supervise and assess the delivery of patient care by assigned personnel, conducting daily patient rounds and performing random chart audits. Utilize opportunities to educate and mentor nursing and ancillary staff.
2. Manage staff to achieve established productivity targets, reviewing and adjusting nursing assignments as necessary to meet patient needs on a shift-by-shift basis. Coordinate staffing with the Central Staffing Office/House Supervisor, making ongoing adjustments based on patient census and acuity to ensure safe care delivery.
3. Exemplify proactive problem-solving by collaborating with staff to effectively resolve identified issues, utilizing the chain of command for unresolved matters.
4. Advocate for patients and staff to ensure safe care delivery and a secure care environment.
5. Demonstrate flexibility and readiness to provide coverage during staffing shortages.
6. Provide timely and confidential coaching or counseling to nursing personnel as appropriate, following up with accurate reports to the Unit Manager and Assistant Manager.

7. Promote and support the professional development of staff by ensuring equal opportunities for participation in unit activities, patient care decisions, hospital committees, and continuing education. Responsible for maintaining and improving employee engagement scores.
8. Ensure first-person reporting of events through RL Solutions, guaranteeing staff competency in entering event reports and serving as a resource when needed. Investigate event report facts and facilitate timely follow-up with the Unit Manager. Notify the Nurse Manager/Risk Manager immediately of high-risk situations.
9. Actively participate in routine and special patient care conferences, responsible for maintaining and improving patient satisfaction scores. Collaborate with the Unit Manager, Assistant Manager Care Coordination, Transition Coordinator, and other disciplines to streamline patient discharge processes and achieve discharge goals.
10. Collect and maintain performance and contribution records throughout the fiscal year, providing input for annual performance reviews and orientation evaluations of unit personnel.
11. Coordinate self-scheduling to ensure appropriate unit coverage, maintaining daily Kronos records and monitoring for trends requiring intervention, such as late clock-ins and missed punches.
12. Assume delegated responsibilities for inventory control of equipment and supplies to ensure safe and effective patient care, facilitating the timely return of rented or borrowed specialty equipment and soliciting staff input regarding unit needs.

This position is security-sensitive and subject to relevant regulations governing the acquisition of criminal history record information.
