Position Overview

The Clinical Trials Finance Manager plays a pivotal role in supporting the financial operations of the Clinical Trials Unit within the College of Medicine at Central Michigan University.

This position is responsible for providing strategic oversight and managerial expertise to ensure that operational, administrative, financial, and staffing policies are effectively implemented for the Clinical Trials Unit.

The incumbent will oversee the pre-award processes related to clinical trials, including the development and submission of grant and contract proposals, while also managing the post-award activities associated with externally funded projects.

As a key liaison, this role interacts with various stakeholders, including granting agencies and institutional partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily financial operations of the Clinical Trials Unit.
  • Supervise the Finance and Clinical Services Coordinator.
  • Provide strategic guidance to university leadership to ensure long-term financial health of the Clinical Trials Unit.
  • Manage annual budgets, develop revenue and expense forecasts, and ensure compliance with university and sponsor policies.
  • Implement and evaluate policies and procedures for the Clinical Trials Unit.
  • Conduct staff management activities, including hiring, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Facilitate the development, submission, negotiation, and management of clinical trials for externally funded projects.
  • Ensure accurate data entry and reporting within financial management systems.
  • Collaborate with various university offices to enhance operational efficiencies.
  • Provide training on clinical trial management policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Required: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, with a minimum of four years in budget management and grant processes within a higher education or healthcare context.

Demonstrated knowledge of grant administration and compliance, effective communication skills, and the ability to foster collaboration among diverse teams.

Preferred: Six years of relevant experience, supervisory experience, and familiarity with Clinical Trial Management software.

This role is essential for maintaining the integrity and efficiency of the Clinical Trials Unit, ensuring that all financial aspects are managed with precision and care.
