Job Overview

The Clinical Support Specialist plays a crucial role in delivering both direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of registered nursing staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care in alignment with healthcare facility policies, procedures, and established standards.
  • Assist with various patient care requirements and support patients in their daily activities.
  • Respond promptly to patient and family inquiries and requests.
  • Collect, document, and relay ongoing patient care information as instructed.
  • Monitor and record patient intake and output, including any necessary weight measurements.
  • Acquire necessary patient care equipment as needed.
  • Facilitate patient transportation as required.
  • May perform tasks such as obtaining vital signs, applying therapeutic devices, and conducting basic medical tests.
  • Conduct regular rounds to address patient needs and ensure a conducive physical environment.
  • Engage in educational activities to promote health and self-care among patients.
  • Report patient readiness for learning to nursing staff.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with healthcare team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
  • Communicate relevant patient information during shift changes and transfers.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care and service delivery.
  • Assist in data collection for performance assessments.
  • Suggest improvements for performance enhancement.
  • Exhibit leadership qualities by embodying the responsibilities of the Clinical Support Specialist role.
  • Demonstrate problem-solving abilities and seek guidance from supervisors when necessary.
  • Act as a mentor for new staff and students.
  • Support cost management within the department.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and assist in preparation for inspections.
  • Follow infection control protocols to minimize infection risks.
  • Help maintain adequate supplies within the assigned unit.
  • Monitor the expiration of sterile supplies and replace as necessary.
  • Uphold patient safety in accordance with hospital policies.
  • Verify patient identity before administering care.
  • Participate in emergency response activities as required.
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment for all stakeholders.
  • Ensure proper handling and delivery of specimens to relevant departments.
  • Support the judicious use of restraints in line with established guidelines.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a Nurse Aide or similar training program.
  • Strong judgment and problem-solving skills, along with effective communication abilities.
  • Capability to convey complex information to diverse audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification as a Nurse Aide.
  • Experience in patient care settings.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, phlebotomy, and EKG procedures.
  • Current nursing students with clinical exposure.

Certifications and Clearances

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Refresher training may be necessary for those out of acute care settings for an extended period.
  • Compliance with background checks as per regulatory requirements.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This role does not involve direct supervisory duties but includes mentoring responsibilities.

Work Schedule

  • Work hours will be determined based on operational needs, including potential shift rotations.
  • Local travel between facilities may be required.
