Position Overview:

Due to our expanding operations, we are looking for a skilled underwriter to join our dynamic commercial construction team. This role presents an exceptional opportunity for an experienced production underwriter, providing a pathway for professional growth and advancement.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate applications and financial criteria for complex risks requiring advanced underwriting expertise.
  • Assess risk acceptability in alignment with company policies and standards, determining the necessity for additional evidence of insurability.
  • Establish appropriate pricing based on financial analysis and competitive landscape while adhering to compliance standards.
  • Prepare quotes and address inquiries from agencies, policyholders, or external stakeholders, escalating issues to management with proposed solutions as needed.
  • Engage in negotiations with agents to achieve favorable and profitable outcomes.
  • Communicate adverse underwriting decisions, rate appeals, and requirements to agencies.
  • Analyze the quality, quantity, and profitability of underwritten risks, preparing reports for management review.
  • Promote products and services through agency and brokerage channels, maintaining strong relationships.
  • Provide guidance to fellow underwriters and collaborate with other departments on cross-selling opportunities.
  • Stay informed on state regulations, industry trends, and share insights with colleagues.
  • Utilize advanced functionalities in relevant CNA systems for daily operations.
  • Collaborate with senior underwriters or management on high-stakes risks requiring special handling.
Qualifications:
  • In-depth knowledge of underwriting principles and insurance industry practices.
  • Proven technical expertise and product-specific knowledge.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills, with the ability to engage effectively with all levels of internal and external partners.
  • Ability to work autonomously and demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Capacity to exercise independent judgment and make critical business decisions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant business software.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities.
Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; professional designations are preferred.
  • Prior underwriting experience is essential, with consideration for applicants at various experience levels; position level will be determined based on qualifications.
