Position Overview
Due to our ongoing expansion, we are looking for an experienced underwriter to join our dynamic commercial construction team. This role presents an excellent opportunity for a skilled production underwriter, with significant potential for professional development and career advancement.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough reviews of applications and financial documentation for complex underwriting scenarios.
- Assess risk acceptability in line with company standards and guidelines, determining the necessity for additional evidence of insurability.
- Establish appropriate pricing through comprehensive financial and competitive analysis while adhering to compliance standards.
- Prepare quotes and respond to inquiries from agencies, policyholders, and external contacts, escalating issues to management with proposed solutions as needed.
- Engage in negotiations with agents to achieve favorable and profitable outcomes.
- Communicate adverse underwriting decisions, rate appeals, and requirements to agencies.
- Analyze the quality, quantity, and profitability of underwritten risks, preparing detailed reports for management review.
- Promote products and services through agency channels and maintain strong relationships with brokers.
- Provide mentorship and support to fellow underwriters and collaborate with other departments, particularly on cross-selling opportunities.
- Stay informed on state regulations, industry trends, and share insights with colleagues.
- Utilize advanced functionalities in relevant CNA systems for daily operations.
- Collaborate with senior underwriters or management on complex risks requiring special handling.
- In-depth knowledge of underwriting principles and insurance industry practices.
- Proven technical expertise and product-specific knowledge.
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills, with the ability to engage effectively with all levels of internal and external partners.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and make critical business decisions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant business software.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience; professional designations are preferred.
- Prior underwriting experience is essential; candidates with varying levels of experience will be considered, with position level determined by qualifications.
