As an Educational Support Specialist, you will play a crucial role in assisting the Lead Educator with the development, organization, and execution of the educational program within a preschool, elementary, or secondary setting. Your primary focus will be to inspire and motivate students to reach their full academic potential.

This role requires the ability to work effectively with moderate oversight while adhering to established procedures and compliance with agency, federal, and state regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the design, preparation, and delivery of engaging lesson plans and instructional materials that promote active learning;
  • Support the implementation of lesson plans, assessments, and educational evaluations in line with established protocols;
  • Facilitate the instruction and supervision of students utilizing learning materials and equipment;
  • Utilize relevant technology effectively to enhance and differentiate instruction;
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures;
  • Maintain discipline in accordance with program rules and disciplinary systems;
  • Provide constructive feedback and assistance to students on classroom assignments;
  • Encourage and track the progress of individual students, adjusting teaching strategies as necessary;
  • Keep accurate and comprehensive records of student progress and development;
  • Ensure all records are updated accurately in compliance with ORR requirements;
  • Participate in school activities, staff meetings, and treatment team discussions;
  • Supervise students during field trips and classroom activities;
  • Communicate regularly with the case management team, Lead Clinician, and support staff regarding student progress and needs;
  • Act as a substitute for the Lead Educator when necessary, providing instruction to students;
  • Assist in the creation of lesson plans and classroom curriculum;
  • Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, or a combination of education and experience preferred;
  • Experience teaching ELL/ESL is preferred;
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is required;
  • Demonstrated cultural sensitivity is preferred;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in both Spanish and English;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships;
  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds;
  • Flexibility and creativity in a diverse work environment;
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently;
  • Proficient computer and typing skills necessary for job functions.
Special Requirements
  • Must pass a criminal background check for the past seven years;
  • Must complete Child Abuse and Neglect background checks in all states lived in the past five years, updated annually;
  • Must obtain an FBI fingerprint check every five years;
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record for the past seven years;
  • Must clear a State of Maryland Department of Public Safety and Corrections Services screening;
  • Must complete a bi-annual physical exam and TB testing as per Maryland state licensing requirements;
  • Must maintain proof of vaccinations, including MMR, varicella, Tdap, influenza, and COVID-19;
  • Must be CPR, First Aid, and AED certified upon hire or within 60 days of hire.
