Battelle Energy Alliance dba Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a skilled Classification Analyst to contribute to our Information Security division. Our team operates on a 9x80 schedule, allowing for every other Friday off.

In this role, you will leverage engineering principles and theories to develop, interpret, and manage the Department of Energy (DOE) Classification and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) programs. You will also engage in relevant Information Security initiatives and collaborative groups, reporting directly to the Information Security department manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct technical analyses related to the administration of DOE classification, unclassified nuclear information (UCNI), and controlled unclassified information (CUI).
  • Assist in the formulation and interpretation of local classification and controlled information guidelines.
  • Perform classification and declassification evaluations for classified materials associated with INL and DOE Operations Office.
  • Apply relevant DOE classification principles to ensure that reports, publications, and other documents containing sensitive information are properly reviewed and protected before public dissemination.
  • Support the training and certification processes for INL derivative classifiers and UCNI Reviewing Officials.
  • Provide expert guidance on classification and sensitive information issues to INL personnel.
  • Deliver education and training on classification, classified matter protection, and sensitive information to INL employees and contractors.
  • Collaborate with the Information Security Department on programmatic self-assessments in accordance with the Safeguards and Security Performance Assurance Program.
  • Participate in the Classification Office's CMPC Committee to develop and maintain policies and procedures, and educate employees on document handling.
  • Assist in the interpretation of regulations and preparation of compliance documentation for Information Security Programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Level 1: Bachelor of Science in a scientific or technical discipline.
  • Level 2: Bachelor of Science in a scientific or technical discipline with 2 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a scientific or technical field.

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, necessitating U.S. Citizenship.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with DOE classification directives and guidelines.
  • Experience in at least one of the following Classified Subject Areas:
    • Nuclear Nonproliferation, Arms Control, and Foreign Policy
    • Chemical and Biological Weapons
    • Counterintelligence/Intelligence Work
    • Isotope Enrichment Technology
    • Nuclear Weapons Radiological Emergency Response
    • Safeguards and Security for Nuclear Material Production and Processing
    • Other Government Agencies including Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program

Compensation:

Salary Range: Level 1: ($63,528 - $130,284) / Level 2: ($75,804 - $155,496)
