Information Security Classification Specialist

In this position, you will apply engineering principles and methodologies to the development, interpretation, and management of sanctioned Department of Energy (DOE) Classification and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) programs. You will also engage in relevant Information Security initiatives and committees, reporting directly to the Information Security department manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct technical assessments in the management of DOE classification, unclassified nuclear information (UCNI), and controlled unclassified information (CUI).
  • Assist in the formulation and interpretation of local classification and controlled information guidelines.
  • Perform classification and declassification evaluations for classified materials associated with INL and DOE Operations Office.
  • Utilize appropriate DOE classification principles to ensure that documents such as reports, press releases, and scientific publications are scrutinized for classified and sensitive content before public dissemination.
  • Support the training and certification processes for INL derivative classifiers (DCs) and UCNI Reviewing Officials (UCNI-ROs).
  • Offer guidance on classification and sensitive information issues to INL DCs and UCNI-ROs.
  • Deliver education and training on classification, classified matter protection and control (CMPC), and sensitive information to INL employees, subcontractors, and other relevant parties.
  • Collaborate with the Information Security Department on programmatic self-assessments in line with the Safeguards and Security Performance Assurance Program and relevant DOE Orders.
  • Participate in the Classification Office's CMPC Committee to create and uphold policies, procedures, and training for document handling.
  • Assist in the coordination and interpretation of regulations, preparation of implementing procedures, compliance verification, and document reviews for Information Security Programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Level 1: Bachelor of Science in a scientific or technical discipline.
  • Level 2: Bachelor of Science in a scientific or technical discipline with 2 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a scientific or technical field.

This role requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, necessitating U.S. Citizenship.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with DOE classification directives and guidelines.
  • Experience in at least one of the following classified subject areas:
    • Nuclear Nonproliferation, Arms Control, and Foreign Policy
    • Chemical and Biological Weapons
    • Counterintelligence/Intelligence Work
    • Isotope Enrichment Technology
    • Nuclear Weapons Radiological Emergency Response
    • Safeguards and Security in Nuclear Material Production and Processing
    • Other Government Agencies (OGA) including Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program

Compensation:

Salary for Level 1: ($63,528 - $130,284) / Level 2: ($75,804 - $155,496)
