The Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a Classification Analyst to contribute to our Information Security division. This role involves a structured work schedule with alternating Fridays off, based at our Willow Creek facility. The successful candidate will apply engineering principles and theories to develop, interpret, and manage the Department of Energy (DOE) Classification and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) programs, while actively participating in relevant Information Security initiatives and committees.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct technical assessments in the management of DOE classification, unclassified nuclear information (UCNI), and controlled unclassified information (CUI).
- Assist in the formulation and interpretation of local classification and controlled information guidelines.
- Perform classification and declassification evaluations for classified materials associated with INL, DOE Operations Office (DOE-ID), and Idaho Cleanup Project (ICP).
- Utilize appropriate DOE classification principles to ensure that documents such as reports, press releases, and scientific publications are thoroughly reviewed for sensitive information prior to public dissemination.
- Facilitate training and certification processes for INL derivative classifiers (DCs) and UCNI Reviewing Officials (UCNI-ROs).
- Offer guidance on classification and sensitive information issues to INL DCs and UCNI-ROs.
- Deliver technical guidance, direction, and educational support on classification and sensitive information to INL personnel, subcontractors, DOE-ID, and ICP, demonstrating a proactive approach to potential challenges.
- Collaborate with the Information Security Department on programmatic self-assessments in accordance with the Safeguards and Security Performance Assurance Program and relevant DOE Orders.
- Participate in the Classification Office on the CMPC Committee to establish and maintain policies, procedures, and training for document handling and security.
- Assist in the coordination and interpretation of regulations, development of company procedures, compliance verification, and review of documents related to Information Security Programs (i.e., Classification, UCNI, OUO, CMPC, OPSEC).
- Level 1: Bachelor of Science in a scientific or technical discipline.
- Level 2: Bachelor of Science in a scientific or technical discipline with 2 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a scientific or technical field.
- This position necessitates the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires U.S. Citizenship.
- Familiarity with DOE classification directives, guides, and bulletins.
- Experience in at least one of the following Classified Subject Areas:
- Nuclear Nonproliferation, Arms Control, and Foreign Policy
- Chemical and Biological Weapons
- Counterintelligence/Intelligence Work
- Isotope Enrichment Technology
- Nuclear Weapons
- Radiological Emergency Response
- Safeguards and Security
- Nuclear Material Production and Processing
- Other Government Agencies (OGA) including Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program
- Salary Range: Level 1: ($63,528 - $130,284) / Level 2: ($75,804 - $155,496)
