Summary:


Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager, the Medical Assistant is responsible for delivering a range of direct patient care services. This includes taking vital signs and assisting patients in preparation for medical procedures. The role also involves collaborating with various departments to ensure seamless service delivery.

Administrative responsibilities encompass completing necessary forms, managing lab requisitions, handling phone inquiries, and sending appointment reminders.

If the Medical Assistant has proficiency in additional languages, they may be called upon to provide translation assistance as required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

90% Direct Patient Services and Clinical Administrative Duties

Deliver patient care services such as measuring vital signs, administering nebulizer treatments, conducting weight assessments, performing EKGs, and executing hearing/vision tests. Document initial patient history, including baseline complaints and the purpose of the visit, along with the services rendered by the Medical Assistant in the patient’s medical record.

Assist in reconciling the patient's medications during the initial assessment. Support the provider during procedures and serve as a chaperone when necessary. Conduct urine pregnancy tests, routine urinalysis, and rapid strep tests. Prepare examination rooms and assist patients for examinations. Collect, label, and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis. Provide translation services as needed. Review schedules prior to the next clinic day to assess patient needs. Engage in discussions with providers regarding scheduled patients.

5% Administrative Duties
Maintain stocked examination rooms with necessary clinical supplies. Manage phone communications, taking and relaying messages as needed. Monitor and complete flow sheets as directed by the provider. Participate in Health Center meetings as required.

Be assigned to the call center as designated by the nurse supervisor, facilitating communication with nurses and providers regarding patient calls.

5% Provision of Continuing Education/In-service
Enhance and maintain professional knowledge through ongoing education and training programs. Mentor Medical Assistant students as assigned. Engage in individual or group teaching sessions. Participate in Health Center committees. Maintain Certification (CMA) through a recognized credentialing agency. Perform additional related duties as assigned by the Clinical Health Services Director or Nurse Manager.
Requirements:

Must possess a certificate of completion from an accredited Medical Assistant Program and hold a current certification in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Certification as a CMA or CRMA is required.

The ideal candidate should have at least one year of recent clinical experience in a healthcare setting, demonstrate flexibility, be well-organized, and capable of standing for extended periods. Cultural and ethnic sensitivity is essential. Bilingual proficiency in Haitian Creole or Spanish is advantageous but not mandatory.
