Position: Communications Equipment Technician

Overview:

The Communications Equipment Technician is responsible for the repair, maintenance, modification, programming, installation, training, and consultation on communication devices, systems, and networks within a Wireless Service Center, field, or client location. This role involves troubleshooting equipment, systems, and networks to identify failures and collaborating with client personnel to determine approved solutions and schedules for various tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Professionally install communication and support equipment, adhering to industry best practices and client specifications.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues in systems and networks post-installation or updates.
  • Prepare work orders, material requisitions, warranty documentation, and other necessary paperwork related to the job.
  • Lead and mentor junior technicians during collaborative projects.
  • Conduct routine performance assessments to verify and adjust system signal levels.
  • Manage activities related to the company service vehicle, including installing testing equipment, maintaining inventory, and scheduling necessary vehicle maintenance.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols at all times.
  • Confirm that all work meets industry standards, best practices, and R-56 guidelines.
  • Work closely with the Service Manager to address and resolve complex service challenges.
  • Coordinate resources to troubleshoot equipment, system, and network issues effectively.
  • Engage with client representatives to guarantee high-quality service and prompt response times, ensuring exceptional customer satisfaction.
  • Uphold the mission and core values of the organization.
  • Consistently meet established deadlines on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the role.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required; a college degree is preferred.
  • Relevant field experience is advantageous.
  • CET certification or an Electrical/Electronic post-secondary degree is preferred.

Additional certifications in RF and two-way radio networking are beneficial.

Skills and Expertise:

Technical/Mechanical:

2 to 3 years of experience in troubleshooting radio and communication equipment is preferred.

Familiarity with industry-standard RF electronics testing tools such as Spectrum Analyzers, Watt Meters, and Digital Voltmeters is preferred.

Understanding of audio, RF, analog, digital, and microprocessor electronics within communication networks is preferred.

Experience in configuring and testing two-way radio infrastructure and subscriber products is preferred.

Knowledge of Motorola and SmartZone systems concepts is preferred.

Experience with channel banks, routers, hubs, and switches is preferred.

Ability to read and interpret technical documents, schematics, and manuals.

Strong technical troubleshooting and resolution skills.

Capability to locate remote customer equipment sites while adhering to safe working practices.

Motorola Certifications:

The organization emphasizes specific Motorola certifications for its team members. It is important to note that expertise in all areas is not expected; team members typically specialize in certain domains such as Subscribers or Fixed Infrastructure. The company maintains a defined percentage of technicians certified in each category, with the CET certification being a prerequisite for any Motorola certification.
