Position: Communications Equipment Technician
Overview:
The Communications Equipment Technician is responsible for the repair, upkeep, modification, programming, installation, training, and consultation on wireless communication devices, systems, and networks within a service center, field, or client location. This role involves diagnosing equipment, systems, and network failures, collaborating with client personnel to establish approved strategies and timelines for various tasks and solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install communication and support systems professionally, adhering to industry standards and client specifications.
- Conduct system and network debugging following installations and updates.
- Prepare necessary documentation including work tickets, material requests, and warranty forms.
- Lead and mentor junior technicians during collaborative projects.
- Perform routine testing to assess and adjust system signal levels.
- Manage activities related to the service vehicle, including equipment installation, parts inventory, and vehicle maintenance scheduling.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols at all times.
- Confirm that all work aligns with industry standards and best practices.
- Collaborate with the Service Manager to address complex service challenges.
- Coordinate resources to resolve equipment, system, and network issues effectively.
- Engage with client representatives to guarantee high-quality service and timely responses.
- Uphold the mission and core values of the organization.
- Meet established deadlines consistently.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory; a college degree is preferred.
- Experience in a related field is advantageous.
- CET certification or a post-secondary degree in Electrical/Electronic fields is preferred.
Additional certifications in RF and two-way radio networking are also beneficial.
Skills and Expertise:
Technical/Mechanical:
2 to 3 years of experience in troubleshooting radio and communication devices is preferred.
Familiarity with standard RF electronics testing tools such as Spectrum Analyzers, Watt Meters, and Digital Voltmeters is preferred.
Understanding of audio, RF, analog, digital, and microprocessor electronics in communication networks is preferred.
Experience in configuring and testing two-way radio infrastructure and subscriber products is preferred.
Knowledge of Motorola and SmartZone systems concepts is preferred.
Experience with channel banks, routers, hubs, and switches is preferred.
Ability to read and interpret technical documents, schematics, and manuals.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Capability to locate remote customer equipment sites while adhering to safety procedures.

Physical Requirements:
This position requires the ability to perform routine 8-hour shifts, with potential for irregular hours. Candidates must be able to lift significant weight and possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
