Job Overview:

The Operations and Launch Senior Manager is tasked with overseeing all facets of operational leadership, strategic planning, execution, and delivery processes essential for initiating new programs while fulfilling customer and business objectives. This role is pivotal in fostering a culture of continuous enhancement and ensuring seamless launches with high quality. The incumbent will mentor and guide the operations leadership team in the metro Detroit region and collaborate across various functions including program management, engineering, procurement, logistics, quality assurance, and Springboro operations teams. Additionally, this position will spearhead Engineering & Process Change control and Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE) initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and supervise operational activities at the Lake Orion facility, encompassing prototype operations, advanced manufacturing engineering, facility management, maintenance, shipping, receiving, inventory oversight, and warehousing.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to operations staff to achieve targeted outcomes.
  • Oversee all operational aspects of new program launches, including build scheduling and reporting, coordinating customer demand with procurement, tracking materials and work-in-progress, resolving conflicts and issues, managing readiness actions, leading shipment approvals, and overseeing Engineering & Process Change Control.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Program Management teams to ensure clear communication of responsibilities and timelines, ensuring all internal departments comprehend their roles in product releases and facilitating communication of release readiness to internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Work alongside all Engineering disciplines to develop technical Product & Process design solutions that optimize cost-effectiveness.
  • Coordinate prototype and production workflows to support a diverse product portfolio.
  • Plan and prioritize operations to maximize performance and adhere to established timelines.
  • Ensure that staff, equipment, and raw materials are adequately resourced to meet production demands.
  • Lead all launch Open Points List (OPL) meetings and drive the resolution of outstanding items.
  • Conduct cross-functional reviews as necessary to advance the operational plan, reporting and escalating issues as needed.
  • Establish strong cross-functional connections between Engineering, Prototype, Production, and Suppliers to guarantee a seamless transition between Product Life Cycle Phases.
  • Identify potential bottlenecks and obstacles early and facilitate improvements to the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) value stream.
  • Engage in the initial stages of new product development to ensure organizational readiness for launches.
  • Develop project timelines in collaboration with Sales, Engineering, and Operations.
  • Identify critical paths and work with local management to implement the operational plan.
  • Engage with partners at all organizational levels, including preparing and delivering presentations as directed by the Director of Operations.
  • Generate reports based on production performance and findings.
  • Accountable for operational deliverables associated with Phase Gates.
  • Ensure all necessary production documentation is completed, including Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), Process Flow Diagrams (PFD), Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), Work Instructions (WI), etc.
  • Support production launches and manufacturing activities in Springboro as required.
  • Participate in Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA).
  • Identify and resolve inventory-related issues.
  • Comply with all company policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Adhere to federal and state regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed.
  • Maintain predictable and reliable attendance.
Position Requirements:
  • Proficiency in Japanese at a native speaker level.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of progressive leadership experience.
  • At least five (5) years of management experience in operations or manufacturing.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in program launches within a manufacturing context.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership capabilities and experience.
  • Knowledge and practical experience with quality management systems.
  • Excellent technical and communication skills.
  • High integrity, ability to navigate ambiguity, and a self-directed approach.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, and MS Project.
  • Experience with TS 16949 and ISO 14001 is preferred.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.
