Job Overview

Position Title

Immigrant Integration Specialist AmeriCorps Member

Mission of CASA

To foster a more equitable society by empowering and enhancing the living standards of working-class and immigrant populations.

Program Focus

The initiative aims to deliver comprehensive financial education and supportive family services, including job placement and pathways to advanced education and vocational training, to assist immigrant and low-income individuals in becoming fully engaged in Virginia's social systems. This project is supported and funded in part by the AmeriCorps Program and The Virginia Service Commission.

Service Locations

Members may be assigned to various sites within designated counties.

Member Benefits

Full-Time commitment:

  • Biweekly living stipend provided
  • Eligibility for an education award upon successful program completion.

The living stipend will be disbursed bi-weekly via direct deposit. Members may qualify for the postponement of qualified student loan repayments during their service. CASA provides training in Financial Education, Tax Preparation, and Citizenship.

Program Duration

The Moving Forward NOVA program will commence and conclude as scheduled. Should there be available positions thereafter, members may begin as coordinated with the Site Supervisor and Program Director.

Role Summary

Immigrant Integration Specialists deliver direct assistance to community members to enhance their financial stability, including personalized tutoring and workshops on various subjects. The member will also engage in outreach efforts to promote program participation.

Training and Development

CASA will offer orientation, training, and ongoing professional development for the Moving Forward cohort. Training will encompass financial education, naturalization processes, and effective outreach strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct workshops and individual sessions
  • Assist Legal Permanent Residents with citizenship applications
  • Prepare tax documents for participants
  • Implement financial literacy programs
  • Connect participants to available resources
  • Engage in outreach through various channels

Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, responsible, and capable of working independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish is preferred.
  • Proficient in computer applications and adaptable to new software.
  • Experience in diverse cultural settings is advantageous.
  • Highly organized and efficient, demonstrating initiative and a positive demeanor.
  • Access to personal transportation is preferred.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to fulfill all responsibilities outlined above.
  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident.
  • Minimum age of 17 years.
  • Pass a criminal background check prior to service commencement.
  • Commitment to complete a full year of National Service.
  • COVID-19 vaccination is mandatory.

Service Schedule

Regular service hours will be Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm, with some evening and weekend commitments required.

Agreements on schedules will be made with the Program Supervisor.

  • Full-time AmeriCorps members serve approximately 40 hours per week
  • Three-quarter time AmeriCorps members serve approximately 30 hours per week
  • Part-time AmeriCorps members serve approximately 25 hours per week
  • Quarter-time AmeriCorps members serve approximately 8-10 hours a week

Selection Process

To be considered for the program, interested candidates must submit a current resume through the designated application system. The selection process includes application review, interviews, reference checks, and matching with host sites. Background checks and necessary paperwork must be completed prior to program enrollment.
