Position Overview:
The Intellectual Property Paralegal will play a crucial role in supporting the Firm's litigation efforts. This position involves managing case-related tasks on a daily basis, including the organization of pleadings, correspondence, and document files, as well as assisting in trial and hearing preparations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily case management and database upkeep; draft, review, and prepare legal documents; conduct thorough due diligence and research.
- Demonstrate proficiency with current Firm technologies and filing procedures, while also providing training to new staff members.
- Monitor dockets and organize all filed documents efficiently.
- Review materials for privilege and relevance; manage document numbering and labeling; maintain comprehensive sets of production and privilege documents, including drafting privilege logs.
- Assist in the preparation of court filings, document services, and expert reports: fact-check, verify citations, and prepare exhibits for exchange or filing.
- Support attorneys in preparation for hearings, depositions, and expert reports.
- Coordinate trial preparations, including organizing files, creating witness binders, and preparing presentation materials. During trials, track time, manage witness binders, and assist attorneys with document distribution.
- Maintain accurate and updated databases and indices; ensure systematic organization of materials.
- Engage in pretrial and trial projects, such as exhibit lists and deposition designations.
- Utilize available departmental training resources effectively.
- Exhibit the ability to independently manage projects and meet deadlines while collaborating effectively within a team.
- Complete discovery projects diligently, ensuring prompt responses to requests from senior paralegals and attorneys.
- Ensure trial projects are completed accurately and within deadlines, maintaining high-quality standards.
Qualifications:
- 3-5 years of experience as an IP Paralegal, particularly with large and complex cases.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, electronic discovery tools, Relativity database, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Strong communication, organizational, and research skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines.
- Self-motivated and creative, with the capacity to work under pressure.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for effective communication with attorneys, staff, and external parties.
- Strong clerical and typing skills, along with proficiency in relevant software.
- Willingness to travel and work overtime as needed.
Education:
- A Bachelor’s degree with a strong academic background is required.
- A Paralegal Certificate is preferred.
