Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Grant and Contract Specialist II to join our team at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. This is a hybrid position that requires a strong understanding of financial and administrative principles, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide pre-award administration support, including advising administrators and principal investigators on sponsor guidelines, participating in application assembly, and preparing budgets.
  • Monitor regulatory and compliance requirements for sponsored research activity, maintaining detailed files and tracking mechanisms for annual renewals.
  • Assist in analytical studies of clinical trials to provide economic basis for management decisions, improving operational and financial performance.
  • Monitor clinical trial funding sources, tracking revenue and expenditure activity, and identifying variances.
  • Prepare data for financial reports, budgets, and research fund reconciliations, forecasting, and analysis.
  • Work with administrators, principal investigators, and staff to resolve problems and optimize the use of funds.
  • Manage post-award grants and contracts administration, monitoring budgets, expenses, and recovered overhead.
  • Assist faculty in finding possible funding opportunities and coordinate pre-award submission activity.
  • Monitor post-award activities to ensure adherence to sponsor guidelines and reporting requirements.
  • Oversee changes to award budgets and submit necessary paperwork for approval.
  • Prepare reports for federal and sponsoring agencies.
  • Assist with award termination process to close-out accounts and notify administrators and principal investigators of final status.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting, or equivalent experience.
  • 3 years of relevant job experience, preferably in an academic environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret financial documents.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and knowledge of enterprise financial products.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, verbal and written, to present and communicate effectively with all levels of management.
