Job Summary

The University of Iowa Health Care department of Food & Nutrition is seeking an experienced Clinical Dietitian to join our team. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality medical nutrition therapy and nutrition counseling to adult and geriatric inpatients. Your expertise will be invaluable in assessing, evaluating, and treating patients with a wide range of medical conditions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive nutrition care to adult and geriatric inpatients, including nutrition screening, evaluation, assessment, treatment, and documentation of patient care plans.
  • Teach dietetic students and provide on-the-job training, evaluating their progress and providing necessary support and assistance.
  • Assess nutrition status and counsel patients on appropriate diets, taking into account their individual needs and medical conditions.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary teams and contribute to the development of nutritional components of patient care.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to address patient food habits and needs, and participate in health team rounds to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Assist in the implementation of studies and short-term projects, and perform special projects as assigned.
  • Participate in departmental and hospital committees, contributing to the advancement of nutrition care and patient outcomes.
  • Review and analyze production, maintenance of standards, costs, and personnel utilization records to evaluate progress and control costs.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the public.
  • Functional supervision of Diet Clerks.

Requirements
  • A Master's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration is required.
  • Licensure by the State of Iowa is required.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Demonstrated competency in patient care in pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations across a wide range of medical conditions in the inpatient and outpatient setting.
  • Experience in making enteral and parenteral recommendations and selecting appropriate formulas.
