Position Overview
This role requires a commitment of five days a week, operating from 8:45 AM to 3:15 PM. Candidates must demonstrate experience in assisting students with unique requirements to be eligible for this position.
As part of the education support team, this role will execute tasks in alignment with established guidelines, accepted practices, and school policies under the supervision of educational leaders. Responsibilities may include overseeing other support staff within the educational framework.
The education support position is designed to enhance the educational services provided to students, without assuming the responsibilities of a teacher as outlined in the relevant educational legislation. Supervision of students may occur individually or in small groups, ensuring that the primary responsibility remains with a qualified teacher.
At this level, candidates may be required to possess certifications or qualifications up to three years in duration (noting that Registered Nurse qualifications are not applicable at this level).
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver routine assistance to teachers, including support in planning student activities.
- Facilitate communication between educators and parents.
- Engage with teachers regarding routine student matters and other responsibilities.
- Provide essential physical care and wellbeing support for students, including assistance with toileting, meals, and mobility.
- Support students in understanding basic tasks and information through effective communication.
- Address immediate behavioral issues related to specific students in accordance with school policies.
- Offer basic supervision for individuals or small groups of up to four students within a classroom setting.
- Assist teachers in coordinating educational programs, including scheduling and organizing the work of support staff.
- Provide medical support to students under specific conditions, with appropriate training.
- Facilitate specialized communication support for students and teachers, including sign language and braille.
