Apex Engineering Group Inc is seeking a Senior Water Resources Engineer to join our Water Group in the Detroit Lakes, MN office.

The primary focus of this role is to oversee a team of engineers, technicians, and support personnel on water resource initiatives from initial planning through to design and construction phases.

The Senior Engineer will be expected to independently manage projects while also fostering collaboration and mentorship among project team members.

Lead Engineers typically report to a sector leader or principal of the firm. Additional responsibilities encompass general marketing of the firm and various business development activities.

Key Responsibilities:
Deliver professional engineering services for clients by providing: studies, planning, design, specifications, plans, reports, construction oversight, and project management.
Maintain consistent and effective communication with clients, supervisors, and project team members, providing updates and progress reports throughout all project phases.
Participate in company meetings, project discussions, and client consultations regularly.

This position will also involve leading the preparation of proposals and engaging in interviews to secure work for the firm.

Business development responsibilities will expand with experience and guidance from senior staff.
This role requires the initiative to think independently and make sound judgment calls.
Provide direction and collaborate with engineering technicians and other team members on the development of project plans and specifications.
Coordinate with other engineering departments on complex multi-discipline projects.
Adhere to the company employee handbook and mandated safety policies.
Perform responsibilities in a conscientious, legal, and ethical manner with a strong attention to detail.
Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
Engage in professional organizations and community leadership programs.
Travel and out-of-town stays may be necessary; overtime may be required, especially during the construction season.

Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering is required.
A Professional Engineer License is preferred or the ability to obtain one within 6-12 months is required.
5-15 years of experience as a Civil Engineer in the water resources and stormwater management sector is essential.
Strong project management skills and experience are crucial for this position.
Experience in construction management is also required.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a prerequisite.
Must be detail-oriented, self-motivated, and possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
A flexible working style and willingness to occasionally adjust personal schedules to meet deadlines and/or client needs are essential.
Proficiency in Microsoft Windows/Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) is necessary.

Experience in watershed modeling, stormwater collection system design, pump station design, equipment sizing and selection, preparing civil design drawings, and cost estimation is advantageous.

Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or other CADD-based civil design software is a plus.
A valid driver's license is required or the ability to obtain one.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit and operate a computer under normal ergonomic office conditions.
Required to work in an outdoor environment during the construction season.

May require prolonged periods of standing and walking to perform some typical tasks and duties associated with construction observation and surveying.

Required to lift objects or containers weighing up to 50 lbs.
