Apex Engineering Group Inc is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Lead Engineer within our Water Group. This role is based in our Detroit Lakes, MN office.
The successful candidate will oversee a team of engineers, technicians, and support personnel on various water resource initiatives, guiding projects from initial planning through to design and construction phases.
A Lead Engineer is expected to independently manage projects while also collaborating with team members to develop comprehensive project plans and specifications. Mentorship of junior staff is a key component of this role. Typically, Lead Engineers report to a sector leader or principal of the firm. Additional duties will include promoting the firm and engaging in business development activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver professional engineering services to clients, including: studies, planning, design, specifications, plans, reports, construction oversight, and project management.
Maintain regular and effective communication with clients, supervisors, and project team members, providing updates and progress reports throughout all project phases.
Participate in company meetings, project discussions, and client engagements consistently.
This role also involves leading the preparation of proposals and participating in interviews to secure new projects for the firm. Responsibilities for business development will grow with experience and guidance from senior staff.
The position requires the ability to think independently and make sound judgment calls.Provide direction and collaborate with engineering technicians and other team members in developing project plans and specifications.
Coordinate with other engineering departments on complex, multi-disciplinary projects.
Adhere to the company employee handbook and mandated safety policies.
Perform all responsibilities in a conscientious, legal, and ethical manner, with a strong attention to detail.
Must be capable of working both independently and as part of a team.
Engage in professional organizations and community leadership initiatives.
Travel and overnight stays may be necessary; overtime may be required, particularly during the construction season.
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering is required.
A Professional Engineer License is preferred or the ability to obtain one within 6-12 months is required.
5-15 years of experience as a Civil Engineer in the water resources and stormwater management sector is essential.
Strong project management skills and experience are critical for this position.
Experience in construction management is also necessary.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a prerequisite.
Must be detail-oriented, self-motivated, and possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
A flexible working style and willingness to occasionally adjust personal schedules to meet deadlines and client needs are important.
Proficiency in Microsoft Windows/Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) is required.
Experience in watershed modeling, stormwater collection system design, pump station design, equipment selection, civil design drawing preparation, and cost estimation is advantageous.
Familiarity with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or other CADD-based civil design software is a plus.A valid driver's license is required or the ability to obtain one.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit and operate a computer under standard ergonomic office conditions.
Must be prepared to work outdoors during the construction season.
May require extended periods of standing and walking to perform typical tasks associated with construction observation and surveying.
Must be able to lift objects or containers weighing up to 50 lbs.Benefits:
